Coyotes in the Daytime

Since the LA Marathon is tomorrow I didn’t run today.  I woke up around 6ish so it will be easier to fall sleep early tonight.  I decided to take a walk, just taking it slow and easy.  I like these kinds of walks because I usually just zone out, listen to Pandora, and browse Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Today as I was walking and browsing, I happened to look up and see what looked like a dog running across the street about 100 feet ahead of me.  I then noticed there was no leash or person with this “dog” and then immediately saw another one run across the street.  And then a third.  At that point I was pretty darn sure they were coyotes.

I’ve seen coyotes before on runs, but only twice since I moved to Irvine last year in January.  I would see them quite often when I lived at my parents’ house.  But, all of those times have been in the early morning when it’s dark.  Today it was after 7 am and perfectly light out. I know they won’t hurt me, but I’m still not interested in having a run in with them (I’ve done that in the past and I think it took 5 years off my life each time).

I kept on walking and just kept an eye out.  I was able to see them ahead of me most of the time but on the other side of the street (I would have walked on that side but decided against it).  At one point I was able to get a couple pictures of them.  You know, to prove I’m not making this stuff up.

These pictures are from my phone and I had to zoom in which is why they aren’t the greatest.  But it still proves that coyotes come out in the daytime!

Luckily there won’t be coyotes at the marathon tomorrow.

  1. They absolutely do! Around where I live I have seen then laying in the sun in a neighbors yard and even walking down the road at lunch time.
